Local Scholarships

DCEF is pleased to announce that in 2016, 29 scholarships were awarded to 34 deserving recipients for a total of $27,300. Each scholarship, along with a letter of acknowledgement, was presented to the recipient at their high school awards day program in May.

Every year applications are sent to each high school counselor’s office in February. The deadline for returning the completed applications to the counselor is late March. The DCEF Scholarship Committee, in addition to the DCEF Board, or the Sponsor’s family, determine the recipient of each scholarship in mid-April.

The following are 33 scholarships available to all local Davidson County Public High School seniors and teachers.   Please check with the designated high school counselors around mid February.

Janet Atwood Scholarship ($1000.00 or 2 @ $500.00)                                                                                 This scholarship recognizes an East Davidson High School senior desiring to further their education at a community/technical college, who have had at least two courses in Family and Consumer Sciences or other vocational classes and have a positive academic attitude.   Contact your East Davidson High School counselor around mid February for more information including an application.

Ryan Bailey Scholarship: ($500.00 for 2017 and 2018)                                                                               This scholarship recognizes a West Davidson High School E C senior who demonstrates school and community involvement, a need for financial assistance and plans to attend a community college or university.  Contact your West Davidson High School counselor around mid February for more information including an application.

Peggy Barnhardt Scholarship ($1000.00)
This scholarship recognizes a deserving student in the Davidson County Public Schools entering study for a career in Music.   Contact your high school counselor around mid February for more information including an application.

Randy Black Scholarship ($1000.00)
This scholarship recognizes an East Davidson High School athlete who possesses good character, teamwork, athletic talent, academic achievement, and desire to pursue a higher education.  This scholarship is selected in house by a committee from East Davidson High School and administered through the Davidson County Education Foundation.  Contact your East Davidson High School counselor around mid February for more information including an application.

Daniel Branson Memorial Scholarship ($1250.00 – For 2017-2018 school year)                             This scholarship is awarded to a East Davidson High School senior who maintains a 2.0 GPA; a four year athlete; active in church, school, community and plans to attend a community college.  Contact your East Davidson High School counselor for more information including an application.

Jack Briggs Scholarship ($1000.00)                                                                                                              This scholarship is awarded to a South Davidson High School senior who demonstrates solid personal character, a need for financial assistance and plans to attend a community college or university.  Contact your South Davidson High School counselor around mid February for more information including an application.

Brighter Future ($1000.00)
This scholarship is awarded to a deserving senior in the Davidson County Public School System who demonstrates financial need, academic achievement, leadership skills, good morals and plans to attend Davidson County Community College.  Contact your high school counselor around mid February for more information including an application.

Carol Fritts Brinkley ($1000.00)                                                                                                                       This scholarship is awarded to:  (1) A Davidson County Community College student who is graduating in the two-year college transfer program and has been accepted into the school of education at a four-year college or university, planning to become a teacher.   OR  (2) A person currently working as a teacher assistant in the Davidson County Public Schools and has been accepted into the school of education a four-year college or university pursuing a teacher degree.   Contact in mid February the DCCC counselor or the principal of your Davidson County Public School for more information including an application.   

E. Lawson Brown Scholarship ($500.00)
This scholarship recognizes a deserving senior in the Davidson County Public Schools entering study for a career in public education.  Contact your high school counselor around mid February for more information including an application.

Davidson County Education Foundation Scholarship ($1000.00)
This scholarship recognizes a deserving senior in the Davidson County Public Schools who is in need of financial assistance and who plans to enter a two or four-year degree program.  Selection will be based on depth of character, academic potential, school/community service, and financial need.  Contact your high school counselor around mid-February for more information.

Denny Fordham Scholarship ($1000.00)
This scholarship recognizes a North Davidson High School student who plans to attend a 4 year college or university studying music education or music ministry. Recipient must have been a high school marching band member 3 out of 4 years.  They are encouraged to participate in the marching band on the collegiate level.   Contact your North Davidson High School counselor around mid February for more information including an application.

East Davidson High School-Academy of Finance Scholarship ($500.00)
This scholarship recognizes an East Davidson High School student who demonstrates strong academic achievement, solid personal character, and substantial financial need for a college bound high school senior. Contact your East Davidson High School counselor around mid February for more information including an application.

Jerry Hampton Scholarship ($500.00)
This scholarship recognizes a Central Davidson High School student who plans to pursue an education beyond high school, participated in at least one varsity sport, has maintained at least a B average, and exhibited good citizenship.  Contact your Central Davidson High School counselor around mid February for more information including an application. This scholarship is selected by a committee from Central Davidson High School and administered through the Davidson County Education Foundation.

Thad Hartley Scholarship ($500.00)
This scholarship recognizes a deserving senior in the Davidson County Public Schools entering study for a career in business or business education. Contact your high school counselor around mid February for more information including an application.

Rebecca Hartman Scholarship ($1000.00)
This scholarship recognizes a North Davidson High School student entering study for a career in public education. Contact your North Davidson High School counselor around mid February for more information including an application.

Randall Hill Scholarship ($500.00)
This scholarship recognizes a North Davidson High School or Thomasville High School student furthering their education by entering the field of horticulture or vocational technology.  Contact your North Davidson High School or Thomasville High School counselor around mid February for more information including an application.

Wayne H. Shoaf/HomeTrust Bank ($500.00)
This scholarship is awarded to a deserving senior in the Davidson County Public School System who is in need of financial assistance and who plans to enter a two or four-year degree program pursuing a career in business.  Contact your high school counselor around mid February for more information including an application.

Charles C. and Ruth J. Hoover Scholarship ($500.00)
This scholarship recognizes a South Davidson High School student who plans to further his/her education.  This scholarship is selected by pastors of two South Davidson area churches and administered through the Davidson County Education Foundation.  Contact your South Davidson High School counselor around mid February for more information including an application.

Clate F. Huffman Scholarship ($600.00)
This scholarship recognizes a deserving senior in the Davidson County Public School system entering study for a career in public education. Contact your high school counselor around mid February for more information including an application.

Jim Hunt Scholarship ($350.00)
This scholarship recognizes a West Davidson High School athlete/student who plans to further their education.  This scholarship is selected in-house by a committee from West Davidson High School and administered through the Davidson County Education Foundation.  Contact your West Davidson High School counselor around mid February for more information including an application.

Thomas K. Huss Scholarship ($500.00)
This scholarship recognizes a Central Davidson High School, South Davidson High School, or West Davidson High School student who needs financial assistance and who plans to enter a 4-year degree program pursuing a career in the area of math and/or science.  Contact your Central Davidson High School, South Davidson High School, or West Davidson High School counselor around mid February for more information including an application.

Tom E. Kearns Scholarship ($850.00)
This scholarship recognizes an East Davidson High School senior entering study for a career in public education. Contact your East Davidson High School counselor around mid February for more information including an application.

Thomas J. Mathews Scholarship ($1000.00)
This scholarship recognizes a senior of an employee from SII DRY KILNS in Lexington, entering a 2 or 4 year program in the study of forestry or wood technology related programs. This scholarship is selected by the Mathews family.

Horace and Lucille Craven Myers Scholarships ($2500.00 and $500.00)
$2500 is awarded to one West Davidson High School student planning to attend a 4-year college or university. Contact your West Davidson High School counselor around mid February for more information including an application.

$500 is awarded to one West Davidson High School student planning to attend Davidson County Community College.  Contact your West Davidson High School counselor around mid February for more information including an application.

Kermit C. Oman Memorial Scholarship ($1000.00)   This scholarship recognizes a North Davidson senior football player who plans to further his education.  Contact your North Davidson High School counselor around mid February for more information including an application.

Don Palmer Memorial Scholarship ($1000.00)
This scholarship will recognize a North Davidson High School senior wanting to teach/coach preferably at the high school level.  Contact your North Davidson High School counselor around mid February for more information including an application.

Betty Payne Memorial Scholarship ($500.00)
This scholarship will recognize an East Davidson High School student who demonstrates financial need, academic achievement, community involvement, leadership skills, and good morals. Contact your East Davidson High School counselor around mid February for more information including an application.

Prishope Memorial Scholarship ($1000.00)  (In Memory of Timothy Holt Davis-Tyro Middle School)
This scholarship will recognize an West Davidson High School senior and field of study must be teaching.  Also student must demonstrate financial need, and good grade point average. Contact your West Davidson High School counselor around mid February for more information including an application.

Joseph Curry & Audrey Leonard Regan ($500.00)
This scholarship is awarded to an East Davidson High School senior of strong character who plans to further their education at a four-year institution. Applicants should have been involved in activities that work toward making their community and school a better place in which to live.  Contact your East Davidson High School counselor around mid February for more information including an application.

Susan Clark Ryan Scholarship ($1000.00)
This scholarship is awarded to an East Davidson High School Hispanic senior who plans to further his/her education at a community, trade or four-year institution, has a positive attitude and strong character, as well as having a financial need.  Contact your East Davidson High School counselor around mid February for more information including an application.

SOAR Scholarship: ($1000.00)
This scholarship is awarded to a member of the senior class of East Davidson High School who has overcome obstacles created by himself/herself and/or obstacles beyond his/her control.  The student can be planning to attend a community college, trade school or four-year institution. Max Walser Scholarship ($1000.00)
This scholarship recognizes a deserving student in the Davidson County Public School system entering study for a career in public education in North Carolina, preferable in Davidson County. Contact your high school counselor around mid February for more information including an application.
